Thoughts from a toddler
Yesterday we played guitar hero. Of course M could hear us jamming. Why should she go to sleep when there is much fun to be had in the "libing" room.
"Mommy, I'm not tired. I'm untired."

Recyled materials
I usually try to do some arts and crafts with Desmina a few times a week. After reading an article in Mothering magazine, I felt inspired to use the books that we check out from the library as a diving board for our crafts.
Last week we checked out How Big is a Lion. Last week, after reading the book, we experimented with different sounds by placing various objects in a school supply box. Is paper loud or quiet? What about a phone? Today we tried to guess what object was inside the box. We both did poorly.
For Desi's project we used all recycled materials around the house to make a puppet.

The body of the lion is made from a paper bag from when we bought soy ice cream at the health food store when Spring was peeking through. His mane is made from left over yarn from a blanket for Sherrie's baby. This was Desi's favorite part because she loves working with scissors. She even added eyebrows. I think it gives the lion character.

Desi pointed out some black in the classifieds for the lion's nose and the tongue is made from the envelope of a Netflix movie. We used some card stock for the nose and for the whiskers we used scrapbook paper. Desi tried to use the wrapping from her juice bottle, but the plastic sleeve didn't cut so well nor did it stick to the paper.
Next book on our list is How Big is a Pig? . Any craft ideas on making a pig?

Things a Toddler Says
To celebrate Earth Day we had a picnic in the park to avoid using lights and the oven to cook. We used Tupperware to contain the food so that we wouldn't use plastic bags for our vegetable wraps.
Desi is wearing a dress. As we are walking to the park, she is lifting her dress all the way up to her chest.
Me: Please put your dress down.
Her: But I'm nursing the snowman.
Where did she come up with that one?

Sponge Bob goes on his way
Time to bid Sponge Bob farewell!
We took a leisurely drive to Burlington for a good cache and good food.

My little hiker.

Sponge Bob tunnel

Sponge Bob hitches a ride

Rock climbing Bob

Just a cool log. M stuck leaves in it.

Sponge Bob takes a break until his next adventure.

Couple of pictures along the way.

Afterwards the kids played at the park nearby.

Now I'm intrigued. Must go visit the website.

Should have gone back to bed
Bodhi woke up at 5:30 this morning.
I should have gone back to bed.
What else is new? He usually wakes up at the crack ass of dawn. I swear he is delusional and thinks he is a rooster. Morning started off as usual. Desmina woke up crying because her Daddy forgot to say bye to her. I reminded her that he did say bye and gave her a special kiss. She was too deep in sleep (too bad I wasn't there too) to remember.
I should have gone back to bed.
I thought that we could use the left over pancake batter from lunch the other day (which was a disaster). Open the fridge. Kids come clawing to the refrigerator. You know I don't feed them. Not at all. Condiments are dropping. Desmina being my special helper, puts them back. Chocolate sauce is opened and upside down and dripping to the floor. Bodhi turbo crawls to the puddle and start lapping at the floor. Gosh! I should feed the poor boy more often.
I should have gone back to bed.
Hmmm...there isn't enough batter for pancakes for all of us. I'll throw some waffles in the toaster oven. How come the toaster light has suddenly turned off? That's right, we live in an old house and can't run two things at once! I have to go downstairs and figure out which fuse box is mine.
Should have gone back to bed.
Knock, knock. It's my neighbor asking me if I can watch Kalie and Sam because their dad told her that it was inconvenient for him to take his own children. Nana had an appointment that she had to go to, which she warned them in advanced that she had to leave early. Of course I said, "Sure."
Should have gone back to bed.
Desmina is trying to be sweet, but Kalie keeps yelling at her. Those that know Desmina, knows that she is a viper. She can strike quickly. Luckily we get through the afternoon with no serious incidence on Desmina's end. Kalie, however, is a different story.
You know it's bad when it takes two grown adults to change her pants. Kalie refused to go potty for me or Carlos. After pleading with her, bribing her, threatening to tell her mommy I realized that the girl wasn't going to go. I had to take her by force. It is obvious the girl has to go and she is fighting to keep it in until Nana comes back home. Kalie is desperately holding on to her crotch and doing a little jig. The hand goes to her butt. I have to go take her to the bathroom NOW with her kicking and screaming. Too late. I have to pry her pants off her and hope that crap doesn't get smeared on her legs. Kalie is still screaming. She runs out of the bathroom. Carlos is able to corral her and as he holds her I attempt to put new pants on the moving target. Kali goes back and forth between the kids tormenting them because she is miserable and you know misery loves company.
Should have gone back to bed.
Dinner is fucked. I attempted to make steamed buns, but they didn't rise. Well, they did partially before getting baked by the toaster oven. I had put the bowl on top of the toaster oven and set it on warm, with the genius idea that they would rise better because it being on top of a warm surface area.
Should have gone back to bed.
Instead we just had steamed balls, (which was quite tasty, I'm just disappointed that it didn't turn out the way I planned) the cabbage, broccoli, carrot and tofu filling and rice. At least my family got to eat. Bodhi throws his plate on the floor. Nothing new there.
Fred and I are in the kitchen talking. All of a sudden I hear a yell. It's Desmina running from the bathroom. I go see what is wrong. Water is creeping from the toilet. Damn toilet! I hate that freaking toilet. The whole bathroom is covered in an inch of water. Disgusting. Nothing I hate more than the bathroom being dirty. Of course there is dirty laundry on the floor which is now saturated with nasty toilet.
Should have gone back to bed.
I need to get out of the house! So we go to Borders. We order our drinks; Desmina has a steamer. I spend my time reading with Desmina or chasing Bodhi; I am enjoying myself. I decide to use my American Express gift cheque. Desmina spends her time picking out a book. When we get to the cashier, they don't take it. Fred thinks the guy is full of crap because the premise of the gift cheque is that they take it wherever they take American Express, which Borders takes AE. No worries. We spent the time picking out a book, we just pay for it. Desmina is occupied. When she realizes that the book is in the bag she starts yelling that she wants to hold the book. We oblige, but she is still yelling. It's escalating. We step aside to let the people behind us pass. As soon as we step outside she shrieks, "I want to say bye!" Fine, Fred takes her inside. She is still yelling. She hits Fred. Fred takes her to the car with her kicking and screaming. Now everything is upsetting her. She wants me to do it. She wants to get in the car herself. She wants to buckle herself. The buckles aren't working.
Should have gone back to bed
I hated to do this to her, but I had to take the book back. I really wanted her to have the book, but there was no way she was going to have the book now. Not with her screaming. Not with her hitting her Daddy. Maybe I should have handled it differently, but I had a long ass day. None of the methods that I have read in my countless books came to my mind.
By the time I came back to the car, Desmina had already calmed down. We talked about her behavior. Desmina even apologized. I know there will be many temper tantrums to come. I just hope that she chooses a better day than today to have t hem. It's just so exhausting! I'm exhausted. I was planning on getting sloshed on cheap wine coolers, but I cannot muster the energy.
I AM going to bed!
